James Porter Lowery, 70, of Clanton, died March 4 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Alabaster.

He was born on Sunday, Nov. 5, 1944, in Chilton County, the son of the late Hershel Walker Lowery and the late Lillian Melton Lowery.

Surviving are three sisters, Shirley (Billy) Looney of Bessemer, Sandra (Jimmy) Mims of Clanton and Doris (Dennis) Gilbert of Quincy; brother, Tom Lowery of Clanton and a host of other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Lillian Lowery; brothers, Bill, Marshall, Gerald and Rex Lowery.

Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. March 7 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with funeral services at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Kent Dodson will officiate the service.

Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Cemetery in Clanton.Martin Funeral Home directing.
