Members of the community were invited to attend a meet and greet at Jemison High School on Tuesday afternoon for the new principal and her administration.

Diane Calloway, who previously served as the vice principal at JHS, fills the position after Allen Wilson resigned in December 2014.

Christy Mims will now serve as the assistant principal at JHS, and Doug Milligan will work as an administrative assistant.

Students from the Culinary Arts Program at JHS provided food for the event as guests mingled in the hallway of JHS before Calloway spoke to those in attendance.

“I wanted to take this time and thank everyone for their support and for coming out today,” Calloway said. “There are a lot of exciting things happening at JHS, and we look forward to the things we can accomplish here.”

Calloway introduced Mims, Milligan, Chilton County Board of Education Superintendent Tommy Glasscock and Walt Fenn, who serves as a consultant for the BOE.

In addition to many activities happening at JHS in the coming months, Calloway said it is her goal to have students ready to go to college or have a skill when they graduate.

“We have had preachers, teachers, meteorologists and even a superintendent graduate from JHS,” Calloway said as she turned to Glasscock. “There is no reason why we can’t continue this and build on what we already have. We have dedicated teachers here in Jemison and they are always willing to go above and beyond.”

Calloway thanked the community for the help they provide in building the school.

“The community is wonderful with their support,” Calloway said. “Whether it is large or small, they are always willing to participate in a fundraiser or help our students out in any way, which helps us be successful.”

Glasscock also spoke to the crowd and said he was excited about the leadership team.

“I grew up in this community,” Glasscock said. “I was a difficult student, but I had wonderful teachers who really helped me.”

Mims also thanked the community for its support and said she looks forward to helping the students succeed.

Milligan said he appreciated the administrative team working together while transitioning into new leadership.

“Transitioning is not always easy, but this team has handled it well,” Milligan said. “This is a wonderful school, and we have a lot of things to be proud of.”

Jemison City Councilman Rex Bittle presented Calloway with a gift on behalf of the city of Jemison.

“We are looking forward to what is ahead of us,” Calloway said. “It is hard in a transitional year, but everyone has worked really hard to make this transition as smooth as possible.”
