The city of Clanton could purchase 10 acres of property adjacent to E.M. Henry Park.
Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver told the City Council at its meeting Monday that the property owner was interested in selling the land, and the council voted unanimously to give Driver authority to negotiate a purchase.
Councilman Bobby Cook was absent from the meeting.
The council also approved the lease of a city-owned building located at 806 16th Ave. N. to South Coast Paper, which is based in Maplesville.
The facility will be leased for $1,800 per month for three years, with an option for two additional one-year leases.
Dale Emfinger, plant manager for South Coast Paper, addressed the council about a wall the company would like to take down. According to Emfinger and council members, the wall was in disrepair anyway, so the request was granted.
Driver said a crew of city workers should be able to complete the work.
The only other action taken by the council was the approval of a TASER policy to be added to the Clanton Police Department’s Directives Manual, effective March 1.
