Hazel Nivens Johnston

Hazel Nivens Johnston, 93, formerly of Clanton, died Saturday, Feb. 14, at Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Ky.
She was born on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1921, in Alabama, the sixth of six children of the late James Austin Nivens and the late Flora Virginia Kendrick Nivens.
She was a homemaker while her children were young and later worked in the office of the First Baptist Church of Clanton and then was the receptionist with the Admissions Office of Auburn University.
Surviving are sons, Michael Ralph (Linda) Johnston of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and James Kendall (Rose Anne) Johnston of Richmond, Ky.; granddaughters, Laura Johnston of Delray Beach, Fla., Susan Johnston of Atlanta, Lee Johnston (Chris) Pence of Richmond, Ky., and Jessica Johnston (Michael) Madden of Richmond, Ky.; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Johnston; her parents, James Austin and Flora Virginia Nivens; brothers, Houston Nivens, Stanly Nivens and Lucian Nivens; sisters, Aline Stroud and Chloe Bennett; and granddaughter, Heather Johnston.
Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matt DeBord officiating.
Interment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton.
