Jemison improved its record to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in Class 5A, Region 4 play with Friday’s 32-21 win over Wilcox-Central.
The game was scoreless until about 4 minutes into the second quarter, when Phillip Lenoir ran 13 yards for the game’s first touchdown.
The point-after try was missed, but the Panthers made it 12-0 on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Lenoir to Kevin Nunn.
Wilcox scored to cut the deficit to 12-6, but Jemison responded with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Lenoir to Nunn with no time remaining in the first half. Luis Molina’s point-after gave Jemison a 19-6 lead at halftime.
Eric Evans added onto the lead with a five-yard touchdown run with 8:33 remaining on the clock in the third quarter.
Six seconds into the fourth quarter, a 10-yard pass from Lenoir to Nunn, and Molina’s extra point, gave JHS a 32-6 lead, and the Panthers held on despite a couple of late Wilcox scores.
Lenoir completed 14 passes in 20 attempts for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing, with 69 yards on eight carries.
Nunn caught 10 passes for 116 yards.
P.J. Blue led the Jemison defense with 12 tackles, three of which went for a loss, and one interception.
Shunderrius Strong had five tackles and a sack.
