Recognizing School Bus Safety Oct. 20-24

Dear editor,

Schools around the country will recognize 2014 School Bus Safety Week, celebrating the theme: “At My Stop, You Stop!”

Studies have proven that the most dangerous part of the school bus ride for children is when they get on and off the bus. Remember to play close attention to school buses when you see them driving on the street, and teach children how to be safe when boarding and exiting the bus.

From winding country roads to busy city streets, school buses carry the most precious cargo: our children. Alabama school bus drivers, mechanics, and other school transportation personnel are the safest and most qualified in the nation.

Alabama and Chilton County has a school bus safety record of which we can all be proud.

However, maintaining this excellent record requires the combined efforts of everyone involved.

This week, you will see signs around the schools that say, “A safe bus ride depends on you,” and it truly does.

Students, parents/guardians, bus drivers, school personnel, and the community must work together to provide a safe bus ride.

Let us work together to make school bus transportation safe!
