Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night on Interstate 65 northbound in Chilton County.
Alabama State Troopers responded to the wreck, which happened at 6:10 p.m. at I-65 mile marker 224, between Jemison and Calera.
The crash involved a 2009 Chevrolet and a 2001 Ford.
The driver and two passengers in the Ford were injured.
Preliminary investigation indicates the wreck occurred when one of the vehicle’s drivers fell asleep, according to Alabama Department of Public Safety Public Information/Education Unit Sgt. Steve Jarrett.
Traffic in the northbound lanes was stopped for 15-20 minutes for a medical helicopter to land, Jarrett said.
The three injured individuals were transported to an area hospital.
Traffic delays reportedly continued in the area for several hours.
No other information about the crash was available as Troopers continue to investigate.
