School board approves personnel changes, school requests

In addition to passing an $80 million budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year Tuesday, the Chilton County Board of Education made decisions on personnel, school requests and other new business.
The board approved the following school technology techs, funded by Title II, for the 2014-2015 school year: Amy Easterling, Chilton County High School; Krisi Parrish, Clanton Elementary School; Angela Deamues, Clanton Intermediate School; Vickey Grooms, Casey Meank and Selena Price, Clanton Middle School; Teresa Green, Isabella High School; Regina Young, Jemison Elementary School; Shonda Copen, Jemison Middle School; Brooke Elliott, Jemison High School; Kathy Hand and Judy Walls, Maplesville High School; Kim Payton, Thorsby High School; and Leslee Deavers, Verbena High School.
The board approved leave requests for: Kara Cleckley, Jemison Elementary School, Aug. 4–Sept. 22; Shelley L. Mims, Jemison Elementary School, Oct. 27–Jan. 5; Selena Price, Clanton Middle School, Oct. 7–Dec. 15; Ashley Seebeck, Clanton Elementary School, Oct. 27–Jan. 5; Cain Young, Chilton County High School, Sept. 2 for the remainder of the school year; and Tracey Minor, LeCroy Career Technical Center.
The board approved a resignation for Willie Mae White, assistant superintendent and personnel director, effective Sept. 30.
The board approved the following employees:
•Chilton County High School – Kayla Cantley, career preparedness teacher.
•Clanton Elementary – Monica Wright, pre-K teacher assistant (OSR), and Courtney Smith, special education teacher assistant (2014-2015 school year only).
•Jemison High – Bobby Keith Powers, counselor.
•Maplesville – Rebecca Averett, kindergarten teacher (Title II class size reduction unit), Aline Burchfield, part-time custodian (four hours per day/12 months), and Dija Fletcher, 1/2-unit special education teacher assistant (2014-2015 school year only).
•Verbena – Patricia Mitchell, Title I intervention teacher.
The board approved the 2014-2015 Clanton Elementary School Tiger Trails employment roster: Rebecca Threlkeld, supervisor; Andrea Abbott and Sheila Speaks, directors; Michelle Coker, Needra Henderson, Janet Holsenback, Renee Martin, Miriam Porter, Ginger Ricks, Shannon Ricks and Pam Teel, teachers; Rebekah Abbott, Logan Clements, Savannah Parrish and Emily Smith, high school helpers; and Brinda Silmon, Sophia McCary, Shea Hughes and Selina Bernal, substitute teachers.
The board approved the following transportation supervisor’s requests:
•Permission to purchase a Ford Explorer 4WD for the transportation supervisor and an F-150 4WD for the shop foreman from the state bid list.
•Permission to request bids on a van for the technology program.
•Permission to add a new bus route in Jemison effective Aug. 27 and post driver position for this route.
•Permission to pay Janice Martin effective Aug. 27 for fueling one additional bus and Raymond Davidson effective Aug. 13 for fueling one additional bus.
•Approval of nine LeCroy Career Technical Center routes.
The board approved school and shop requests for: Clanton Middle – approval of Joann Summers as a certified substitute ($71.25 per day); Jemison Elementary – approval of Courtney Smith as certified substitute ($71.25 per day); Jemison High – approval of Jamie Mitchell as tennis coach and Jason Wayne Mitchell as volunteer assistant coach, and approval for Sandra Cullen and DECA members to attend the DECA Power Trip Conference in Washington, D.C., Nov. 20-23; Thorsby – approval for Terri Nobles to sponsor a trip to Virginia and Washington, D.C. for fifth- and sixth-grade social studies students departing May 12 and returning May 17.
Other measures the board took action on were:
•Approved the maintenance supervisor’s request to hire two co-op students at $10 per hour as helpers for the remainder of the school year.
•Approved the University of Phoenix school affiliation agreement with the Chilton County Board of Education as related to student internship in the district.
•Approved the federal program supervisor’s request to post a 1/2 certified Title I intervention teacher position at Clanton Intermediate and 1/2 English language itinerant teacher only for the remainder of the school year.
•Approved paying $10,000 annual dues to School Superintendents of Alabama.
•Approved the corrected coaches supplement list.
•Approved to allow participating FFA chapters to use the board of education property on Chilton County Road 37 to grow crops as a means to raise funds for vocational projects, and all funds must be used for student-related matters.
•Approved for Tiffany Collins and Suzy Bragg to be paid highly qualified sub pay of $70 per day.
•Named Ryan Ellison as head baseball coach at Chilton County High School.
•Hired Willie Mae White hourly to do personnel duties until her former position is filled.
•Heard that United Way of Chilton County recognized the Chilton County Board of Education for its work.
•Met in a closed complaint hearing for about 27 minutes as per board member Pam Price’s request.
