Christ Independent Methodist Church
We began this beautiful Sabbath day by singing patriotic songs, including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory” and “America the Beautiful.”
Dr. Mac Stinson’s sermon title was “I Will Give You Rest.” His scripture was taken from Matthew 11:25-30.
The Gospel according to Matthew may properly be called the first Christian book. The earlier gospel by Mark is rather too brief to be dignified by such a title, and Paul’s letters claim to be no more than letters. When the gospels were grouped together at Ephesus near the end of the second century A.D., Matthew for some reason now unknown was placed first, which is the position it still retains.
The Gospel according to Matthew was probably composed a year or two before the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. Jesus had been crucified a generation before and had been repudiated by his own race.
“And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his 12 disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see.” (Matthew 11:1-4)
Many tired people simply suffer from sleep deprivation. Our greatest need is to relax and trust God. That’s what happens when we put our trust in Christ. He helps us bear the burdens of the day.
Christ said to us: “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest … for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
When you pray, remember Mary Ann Carden and all others in special need of prayer. Remember Autumn Glass and Ricky Ingram. Both were hospitalized following an automobile wreck on Sunday morning.
This Sunday coming up, Holly Muchleisen will be sharing with us special news from Japan. Be present to hear her for this special service. Holly is a WGM missionary.
On Sunday, July 6, we began a new study called “Forty Days with Jesus.” This is a study on Jesus’ 40 days on earth following his resurrection. Come worship and learn together. Have a blessed week.
Mt. Carmel No. 1
This Sunday morning, we had a glorious time in the house of the Lord. We were few in number, but we knew Jesus was the most important treasure that God can give us. We were thankful to be with our friends and visitors.
Bro. Derrell’s message was titled “What’s that Smell” from Ecclesiastes 10:1. Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour. Folly sneaks into our lives, our words get twisted and we have to be careful. Remember the story of David and Samson and how folly turned their lives. The little things we let into our lives become a distraction. Christians should be different. God is the center of our lives and we are the light unto the world. Check up on your life. Your prayer life is a spiritual ointment to add to your life. Let the ointment spirit of God be the ingredients in your life. Don’t you want your life to be an example of your walk with God? Your walk with God should be your testimony.
Sunday night’s message was taken from Mark 8:22-25 titled “Three Phrases of Spiritual Blindness.” When Jesus came to Bethsaida, a blind man was brought to him. Jesus saw the need in that city and began a ministry of healing and teaching. Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town so he would be totally focused on him. Jesus wants our fellowship every day. Partial blindness is not being fully dedicated to God or the church. No man can serve two masters. The best life is to not be blind at all.
Mark your calendars for our Prayer Walk on July 10 at 4:30 p.m. We gather to pray for our church, the lost and the sick of our church and our community.
On Saturday, July 12, there will be a church cleaning to prepare for homecoming. We will cut grass and do some yard work starting at 9 a.m.
Homecoming at Mt. Carmel will be July 27. It will begin at 10 a.m. with singing by The Kempters. Bro. Chad Foshee will be the guest speaker. Please make plans to be with us for the 79th homecoming day.
As you have your daily devotion and prayer time this week, remember to pray for all the requests on our prayer list, especially for Jean Campbell, Tammy Harmon, Jenny Hayes, Ryan Scott, and our committee for teachers and officers for the coming year. May God bless you is our prayer.
