BOE approves personnel changes, school requests

The Chilton County Board of Education approved personnel changes and school requests at a regular meeting Aug. 19.
In personnel, the board approved the following employees:
•Ron Undem, general science teacher at Chilton County High School (only for the 2014-2015 school year).
•Sarah McCary, OSR preschool teacher assistant at Clanton Elementary School.
•Maria Sarabia, part-time custodian at CES (4 hours per day/12 months).
•Victor Rodriguez, in-school suspension teacher assistant at Jemison High School.
•Cherie Deana Hickey, mathematics teacher at JHS.
•Dollene Trott-Smith, elementary teacher at Verbena High School.
The board approved leave requests for Jennifer Hicks at Jemison Elementary School (Sept. 29–Dec. 1) and Tiffany Lockhart at Jemison Elementary School (Sept. 8–Nov. 3).
The board approved resignations for William Matthew Maddox at Chilton County High School (effective Aug. 4), Lacrecia Waters at Jemison High School (effective Aug. 7) and Shanda Harris at Clanton Elementary School (effective Aug. 6).
The board approved the following employees to conduct early morning detention: Ray Sosa, Chilton County High School; Donna Hayes, Jemison Middle School; Tim Fortner, Thorsby; Chad Harrison, Clanton Middle School; Nathan Hayes, Jemison High School; Jane Cleckler, Verbena; Nelda LeCroy, Isabella; Tate Leonard, Maplesville.
In other personnel matters, the board:
•Approved the federal programs supervisor’s request for hiring Title I units and class size reduction units.
•Approved to rescind the motion made at the July 15 meeting to hire Daphne Green as custodian at Maplesville High School and repost the position.
•Approved the following substitute bus drivers: David Bowen, Christina Land, Katie Land and Amy Lucas.
•Approved to remove Daniel Moore from the substitute employee list.
•Approved a recommendation to post vacancies.
•Approved a list of employees to receive supplemental pay for the 2014-2015 school year.
•Approved to allow Charlie Linquist and Derrick Wright to teach in the Adult Education Night program at LeCroy Career Technical Center on an as-needed basis.
•Approved to allow Randall Beagle and Adam Burdett to serve as volunteer coaches at Verbena High School pending meeting ASHAA requirements.
•Approved to declare an emergency project due to time constraints to repair a road between Jemison Middle School and Jemison Elementary School.
•Approved for Officer Cameron Bates be placed on a substitute list necessary for LCTC Public Service Academy.
•Approved for Lynn Hauswirth be granted catastrophic leave Sept. 23 through January 2015.
•Approved to post the following emergency positions due to student numbers: teacher assistant/Access facilitator at LCTC, special education teacher assistant at Clanton Elementary School and 1/2 unit special education teacher assistant at Maplesville High School.
The board approved the following school/shop requests:
•Maplesville: Permission for Maplesville Pee Wee Athletics to use the school’s football field for their fall season with all fees being waived.
•Thorsby: Permission for Brian Lucas and the FFA Meats Evaluation and Technology Team to travel to Louisville, Ky., Oct. 27-Nov. 1 to compete as the Alabama state champions for the national championship; and permission for Thorsby Youth Football to use the school’s football facilities for their fall season and all fees and expenses be waived.
•Verbena: Permission for Verbena Youth Football to use the school’s football field and annex for practice and games and all fees be waived.
•LeCroy Career Technical Center: Permission for the Chilton County FFA chapters to travel with students to Moultrie, Ga., on Oct. 15 to attend the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition.
In other business Tuesday, the board:
•Allison King with the Alabama Education Association visited the board and introduced herself as the new director for UniServ director for District 18.
•Approved payrolls and account payables for July 2014.
•Approved the minutes of the previous meetings.
•Approved the July 2014 monthly financial statements and bank reconciliations for the Central Office as presented by Chief Financial Officer Steve Yeargan.
•Approved to request bids on a mops and mat service and welding supplies.
•Approved for the Child Nutrition Program to be allowed to get a van, based on Transportation Department Foreman Bobby Martin’s approval, as long as it is under $15,000 either from a dealer or state surplus.
•Approved for two public hearings on the 2014-2015 budget to be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 4 and 16 at the Central Office.
