Joseph Frye, award-winning ceramic artist and owner of OBTS Art Studio, is the August feature artist at the Chilton County Arts Council’s Rose Gallery.

“We’re delighted to have the rare opportunity to display Joseph’s work this month,” Rose Gallery Director Sue Anne Hoyt said. “His schedule is so busy with shows, exhibitions and classes, we were lucky to get him.”

Each of Frye’s pieces is hand built or wheel-thrown and one of a kind. He enjoys incorporating carvings and patterns with the use of found objects that appeal to his artistic sensibilities.

Some works could be considered mixed media. For these works, Frye combines clay, glass and different glazes using similar techniques.

Frye frequently travels to exhibit his work at various fine art shows across the country.

He currently resides in Clanton with his supportive family. He has a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University and over 29 years of experience. Frye has taught ceramics at a local college and currently offers pottery classes for children, adolescents and adults.

“I am personally a fan of his work, and I know the public will love seeing it displayed here,” Hoyt said. “He uses a wide variety of glazes and finishes, and his work truly stands out with exciting use of color.”

Frye’s work is on display at the Rose Gallery throughout the month of August. The public is invited to a reception on Aug. 16 from 2-4 p.m. at the Chilton County Arts Council. Refreshments will be served, and the artist will be on site to share comments on his work.

The Chilton County Arts Council is located at 703 Second Ave. N in Clanton. The Rose Gallery is open for public viewing Thursdays from 1-3 p.m., and Saturdays from 3-5 p.m. Group viewings can be scheduled by calling the Arts Council at 205-217-3027.
