Maplesville’s Chase Girlie flips his bat after taking a walk in the second inning of the second game of a best-of-three baseball playoff series against Wadley on Saturday.

Maplesville began its appearance in this year’s Class 1A state playoffs in dominating fashion.

The Red Devils (20-5) defeated Wadley twice on Saturday, 19-0 and 21-0, to claim the best-of-three series and advance to the second round.

MHS will host Billingsley beginning April 25.

On Saturday, the Devils produced up and down the lineup.

In Game 1, Damian Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI; Trevor Wallace went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI; Brandon Abbott went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and five RBI; Colby Chambers went 3-for-3 with two doubles, four runs scored and one RBI; Brett Walker went 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and three RBI; and Chase Girlie went 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored and three RBI.

Chambers earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit in five innings pitched while striking out six Wadley batters.

Both games were called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Wallace was the winning pitcher in Game 2, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out 12.

In that game, Mitchell went 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI; while Trent Smitherman blasted a grand slam in a fifth inning that saw the Red Devils plate 14 runs.
