Rocky Mount United Methodist Church
Our pastor’s wife, Sandy Guin, did a splendid job of hosting our first “Last Sunday of the Month Fellowship” between Sunday school and morning worship. We thank her and we also invite you to join us any time, but especially on the next “last Sunday of the month.” On the last Sunday in March, we will celebrate all the birthdays of January, February and March with a potluck lunch.
Sunday’s scripture was from Acts 4:32-5:11. This scripture can be quite frightening, as Ananias and Sapphira both lost their lives following their gift offerings, which were not complete because they had reserved a portion for themselves and then lied about it. What an extreme reaction to their dishonesty! Bro. Guin went on to quote from T.S. Eliot: “The last act is the greatest treason: to do the right deed for the wrong reason.” How many give for the recognition instead of giving from the heart? As we heard how dishonesty destroys people and the wages of sin are death, we are also reminded that we must all come before the Lord with honesty and give all to God. We should be honest with him and confess our sins. God is faithful and just. It is because Jesus died for us that we have received his amazing grace. We can be saved. Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more. Great news!
Mountain Springs Church
Services started on Sunday with Bro. Kenneth Moates leading the church in the following hymns: “Are You Washed in the Blood,” “Just A Little Talk with Jesus,” “Come and Dine” and “Anywhere is Home.”
Bro. Roger Cleckler gave a devotion from Colossians 1:9-14. We are qualified to go to heaven when Jesus saves us, but we still have work to be done.
After Sunday school, we had a very special service with the dedication of Bro. Heath and Freda Vines’ baby boy, William Jase Vines. The special music was sung by Will’s grandparents, Ronny and Shirley Rigsby.
Bro. Heath preached from Ephesians 4:20-24. God expects us to do what is in his Word. He wants us to be planted by his Word so we won’t be easily persuaded by this world. People will learn and know Christ when they put off the old man and put on the new man.
Sunday night’s service was our end-of-the-month singing. Many people sang and blessed the church with their wonderful talents used for the Lord. We are so thankful for all of the amazing talent God has placed at Mountain Springs.
We will have a special singing on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. with special guests Ivan Parker and Canaanland. This will be a wonderful event and you do not want to miss it!
