Commissioners also heard from Minooka Park Manager Gerald Arrington who discussed several things happening at Minooka Park.
Arrington told commissioners the park recently held a dirt bike race through Southeast Cross Country Association.
“We had 325 paying guests come through the gates,” Arrington said. “It was our biggest race yet.”
Arrington said the park is currently working on hosting the second annual Minooka Mudder 5K race March 15 at the park.
“Last year we held the race in March, and we had 200 runners participate,” Arrington said. “We are working on obstacles now, and we will be partnering with Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness.”
Commissioners congratulated Arrington on a $96,000 grant awarded to Minooka Park by Gov. Robert Bentley on Feb. 19.
Arrington said Minooka Park plans to use the grant to purchase 40 acres adjacent to its existing 300-acre park near Jemison.
