Student who took explosive to school to be placed in alternative program (updated)

Regarding school system personnel, the board:
•Approved leave requests for: Phillip Goodwin, Jemison High School, beginning Feb. 24; Megan Haskew, Clanton Middle School, March 17–May 19; Brooke Sullivan, Clanton Intermediate School, beginning Feb. 17 for remainder of school year; and Matthew Staggs, Jemison Middle School, for remainder of school year.
•Approved school/shop requests for: Chilton County High School – permission for American Cancer Society to use auditorium and cafeteria seating area at no charge for the Miss Relay For Life Pageant sponsored by West End Baptist Church on April 10 (practice) and April 12 (pageant); Clanton Middle School – permission to proceed with plans to work with an architect on an addition to the gym, and approval of Janet Murphy as a certified substitute teacher ($71.25 per day); Jemison Middle School – approval of Britt Roshon as a certified substitute teacher ($71.25 per day) and a volunteer assistant baseball coach for the remainder of the academic year; Maplesville – approval to add Brittany Yeargan to supplement list as cheerleader sponsor retroactive to her hire date; and Bus Shop – permission to add a Jemison bus route on Feb. 19 and post a driver position.
•Approved to rescind motion on Jan. 21 to employ Michael Green as a mechanic due to his not showing up and verbally declining employment.
•Accepted resignation for: Temika Winters, secretary/bookkeeper, LeCroy Career Technical Center, effective Jan. 25.
•Approved the following employees: Isabella – Emily Bedgood, English teacher, for remainder of this school year; Thorsby High – Joy Kane Hicks, Family and Consumer Science teacher, for remainder of this school year; Verbena High – Jennifer Beagles, kindergarten teacher, for remainder of this school year; and Bus Shop – Justin Wilson, mechanic.
In other business, the board:
•Approved a recommendation to place a Chilton County High School student in the Chilton Alternative Program for 90 days.
•Approved to post vacancies as needed.
•Approved minutes of the previous board meeting.
•Approved January 2014 financial statements and bank reconciliations of the Central Office as presented by Chief Financial Officer Steve Yeargan.
•Approved January 2014 payrolls and accounts payable.
•Approved summer school schedule submitted by Dr. Cynthia Stewart for Chilton County High School.
