BOE awards Thorsby greenhouse bid (updated)

The board approved the following employees:
•Chilton County High School (grades 9-12) – Kayla Cantley, half-unit science teacher, only for the remainder of this school year.
•Clanton Elementary School (grades k-2) – Candace Gulledge, teacher assistant, only for the remainder of this school year.
•Jemison Elementary (grades k-4) – Courtney Adams, elementary teacher, only for the remainder of this school year.
•Central Office – Rachel Rachels, Child Nutrition Program director.
•Bus Shop – Michael Green, mechanic.
In other business, the board:
•Approved December 2013 financial statements and bank reconciliations of the Central Office as presented by Chief Financial Officer Steve Yeargan.
•Approved December 2013 payrolls and accounts payable.
•Approved a leave request for Phyllis Sorrells effective Jan. 6–Feb. 4.
•Accepted resignations from Charlotte DeLoach, teacher at Verbena, effective Jan. 31; and Cynthia Short, teacher at Isabella, effective March 1.
•Approved for YMCA of Chilton County to use the Chilton County High School auditorium and lunchroom seating area, at no charge, for a fundraiser pageant on March 15.
•Heard from parents of a Chilton County student about their concerns regarding the student’s progress after changing schools.
•Approved a special education request to allow Special Olympics to be held May 8 and to allow special education students to participate in a field day rodeo sponsored by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department on May 16.
•Approved for Jemison High School to form a bass fishing team provided all state criteria is met and the board gets insurance approval of it.
•Approved for Jay LeCroy and Jason Sosa to participate in a University of Alabama program this summer that will certify them to teach computer education and might lead to a dual enrollment class in the future. Their participation in the program will incur no cost to the board.
