Jackson Chapel Church

Bro. Gary Fant got the morning service started off with “Are You Washed in the Blood” and “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder.” Bro. Dennis blessed us with “Glory Road.”

Bro. Dennis’ text came from 2 Kings 7:3-9: We’ve got to remember that there is no reason for us to want to turn and go back into the world because God is able to meet whatever needs we have. It is sad to say that when we have needs in our lives that are not met when we think they should be, our first thought is to forget about God and want to go back into the world. We are some of the most blessed people because of all the blessings Jesus Christ bestows upon us, so the least we can do is live for him.

The service ended with several people coming to pray.

Happy birthday to Matthew Pate.

Please remember these as you pray this week: Charlie Mitchell, Earl Smith, Gail Fant, Samuel Burnett, Tommy Matthews, Roy Martin’s mom, Carl Caudle, Bob Schultz, Donnie Bean, Patricia Porter, our lost loved ones, and our service men and women.

We are located at 4020 Yellow Leaf Road. Our service times are Sunday school: 10 a.m., Sunday morning worship: 11 a.m., Sunday evening worship: 6 p.m. and Wednesday evening Bible study: 7 p.m.

Bethany Baptist Church

Our morning service opened with “Am I a Soldier of the Cross” and a devotion titled “Hypocritical Hearers” from Isaiah 23:13-14.

The Pharisees were a religious group who believed they were the only group who adhered to the Jewish Law. In fact, they changed the law to be what suited their opinions at the moment. They claimed to be something they were not. We have to be careful of that today.

After prayer and Sunday School, we began worship services with songs honoring the veterans who gave their time—and some, their lives—for our freedom. Music included “Onward Christian Soldiers,” “Sound the Battle Cry,” “Faith Is the Victory” and “Who Is On the Lord’s Side.”

Bro. Aubry announced the date and time of our Christmas cantata. It will be Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. following Sunday school. Bro. Aubry will bring a message, and then lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. Please feel welcome to visit with us anytime, as well as for our Christmas program.

The message on Sunday was “A Thrilling Moment in Time,” from Luke 23:32-43. Jesus was on the cross, dying for the sins of the world. On either side of him were two malefactors (evildoers) who were also dying on crosses. One of the men cried out to Jesus in mockery, saying, “If thou be the Christ, save thyself and us.” Even though he was in agony and about to die, he still rejected Jesus Christ. He was mocking the only one who could keep him from going to hell after death. The other malefactor cried out in repentance, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.” At that instant, he was saved and going to heaven at the time of his death.

Jesus was and is the sinner’s only hope of being saved and going to heaven. Accept the free gift of salvation before your heart gets so hard the Holy Spirit quits dealing with you. The first step toward being saved is realizing you are lost and repenting of (being sorry for) your sins. At that point you need to trust Jesus to save you. Jesus seized the opportunity to reach out to the lost sinner who humbled himself and asked Jesus to remember him. Jesus saved him, and will save the lost today.

After a prayer and a hymn, “I Surrender All,” we were dismissed in prayer.

Our evening services began with “America the Beautiful,” business meeting and prayer.

Bro. Aubry’s message was from Luke 10:17-20. Seventy disciples were sent out by Jesus to preach the gospel to a lost and dying world. Earlier in this chapter, Jesus told them not to worry about anything, but that he would provide all their needs. They were to go in faith, as saved people we today should go.

As saved people, we should rejoice, regardless of our circumstances on this earth. We have our names written in heaven. Even though we know, according to Romans 8:28, that all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose, we still get discouraged. We should rejoice because we are able to go to church to worship God. The real root of our joy is the blessed assurance that we are saved and one day will be in heaven with Jesus. Salvation is more than getting a “get out of hell free” card. Some benefits of salvation are: a new relationship with God and Jesus, adoption into the family of God (joint-heirs with Jesus), access to our Father in Heaven (can pray directly to God), and there are many great things in store for us in our heavenly home (Revelation 21 and 22).

We closed with a prayer, the hymn, “Blessed Assurance,” and a dismissal prayer until we meet again on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Those on our prayer list include: our church family, Bro. Aubry, and Shirley, Elwyn and Grace Robinson, Billie Neeley and Jackie Neeley, Mrs. Biggs, Bro. Steve and Phyllis, our young adults, visitors, John Rodriguez (Michelle Vines’ dad), Lisa, Michelle’s mom, Henry and Myra Moore, and Paul and Linda Gray.
