Men’s spotlight
Taylor Hughes (Chilton County 2010) completed 10-of-12 passes for 196 yards and three total touchdowns en route to leading Huntingdon College (4-1, 2-0 USA South Athletic Conference) to a 48-40 triumph at Greensboro College (1-5, 0-3 USASAC) on Oct. 12 in Greensboro, N.C.
The junior contributed his first score a 52-yard TD pass to Nick Haas at the 13:29 mark of the second quarter for a 21-6 Huntingdon lead.
Hughes added a second TD pass with 13:59 remaining in the third quarter to push the Huntingdon lead to 34-12.
With 2:53 remaining in regulation, he added an 11-yard rushing score.
In the contest, he totaled seven carries for 44 yards to push his season rushing totals to 25 carries for 155 yards and three TDs.
For the season, he is 49-of-69 passing for 788 yards and seven TDs complemented with one game-winning drive.
Women’s spotlight
Amber Wyatt (Isabella 2011) posted a game-high eight blocks to complement three kills, two digs and one assist for South Alabama (7-10, 2-5 Sun Belt Conference) in a 3-1 triumph against Louisiana-Lafayette (12-8, 2-4 SBC) on Oct. 11 in Lafayette, La.
On Oct. 12, the sophomore added six blocks and four kills in a 3-1 victory at home against Georgia State (5-16, 0-7 SBC) in Mobile.
For the season, she has participated in 13 matches and made eight starts to total a team-high 53 blocks to complement 49 kills, 11 digs and four assists.
Kasi Wells (Jemison 2011) tallied a team-high 13 assists for Cumberland (12-13, 3-7 Mid-South Conference) in a 3-0 triumph at Cumberlands (12-12, 3-6 MSC) on Oct. 10 in Williamsburg, Ky.
In the contest, the junior added one kill and one dig.
On Oct. 10, she compiled a team-high 13 assists in a 3-0 loss at St. Catherine (12-9, 6-4 MSC) in St. Catherine, Ky.
She completed the game with two kills, one dig and one block.
For the year, she has participated in 25 matches to total a team-high 473 assists, 115 digs, 55 kills, 25 blocks and 13 aces.
Football
Anthony Johnson (Maplesville 2013) hauled in two receptions for 19 yards for No. 24 Jacksonville State (5-2, 1-2 Ohio Valley Conference) in a 31-15 loss at home against No. 23 Tennessee State (6-1, 3-0 OVC) on Oct. 12 in Jacksonville.
For the season, the freshman has competed in every game to provide 13 receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown.
JSU and TSU ranked among the NCAA Div. IAA Top 25 by the Coaches Poll released on Oct. 7.
Javae Swindle (Jemison 2012) contributed 14 carries for 34 yards to lead No. 14 West Alabama (5-1, 3-0 Gulf Shore Conference) to a 49-30 upset victory at home against No. 1 Valdosta State (4-1, 2-1 GSC) on Oct. 12 in Livingston.
In the contest, UWU (5-1, 3-0 Gulf Shore Conference) overcame 16-14 halftime deficit with a 21-point third quarter.
Both teams were ranked among the NCAA Div. II Top 25 by the American Football Coaches Association poll released on Oct. 7.
For the year, Swindle totals 7.9 yards-per-carry on 60 attempts for 473 yards and four touchdowns.
Jacoby Browder II (Pratville 2010) recorded one tackle as a defensive back for Tuskegee (5-1, 3-0 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in a 54-10 triumph at Morehouse College (2-4, 0-1 SIAC) in the 78th annual matchup on Oct. 10 in Columbus, Ga.
For the season, the Verbena native has competed in every game and made five starts to compile 10 tackles.
Blake Lawley (Isabella 2010) recorded five tackles and one field goal block as a starting defensive end for Huntingdon College (4-1, 2-0 USA South Athletic Conference) in a 48-40 triumph at Greensboro College (1-5, 0-3 USASAC) on Oct. 12 in Greensboro, N.C.
For the year, the senior has started in every contest to compile 17 tackles, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick.
Austin Rossi (Chilton County 2013) has participated in two games this season as a linebacker for Birmingham-Southern (3-2, 1-1 Southern Athletic Association) to compile one tackle.
Volleyball
Allison Mims (Isabella 2013) has started every match this year for Wallace Community College-Selma (7-8) to contribute a team-high 19 aces complemented by 24 digs, eight kills and three assists.
Kinslee Mims (Isabella 2013) has competed in three matches for WCCS.
Elizabeth Compton (Isabella 2013) has contributed in one match for WCCS.
