LeCroy Career Technical Center in Clanton will hold its sixth annual open house Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 4–6 p.m.

The open house will be combined with Chilton County Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours.

This year, the newly added Public Service Academy will be spotlighted.

The academy consists of two concentrations, fire fighting and law enforcement, and is the county’s first public service class available to high school students who want to pursue jobs in either or both concentrations after graduation.

Classrooms and facilities for the academy and all departments at the center will be open for viewing, and teachers and students will be present in each department to answer questions and talk to guests about course curriculum and activities.

Departments include Health Science, Cosmetology, Drafting Design, Electronics, Robotics, Horticulture, Business Education, Construction II and Auto Service.

Current and prospective students and their parents, along with community members, are invited to attend the open house.

“This is our premiere event,” LeCroy director Tommy Glasscock said. “It allows parents to come in and see what students are doing. It’s just a good opportunity for the community to see what we do here.”

The center’s Adult Education night classes including HVACR (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration), Welding, Auto Collision Repair and Industrial Maintenance will also be showcased.

Guests can also learn about the center’s partnership with Jefferson State Community College in Clanton to offer a Clinical Medical Assistant class.

Additionally, Glasscock said fire and law enforcement personnel would be at the event, as well as business industry partners like Johnson Controls.

Alabaster Career Center representatives will be on-site to talk to students about scholarship opportunities, and an Air Evac helicopter will fly in between 4 and 5 p.m.

Registration for classes will not be held at the open house.
