Douglas Lee Byars, 73, of Jemison, passed away Sept. 28 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on March 16, 1940, in Birmingham, the son of the late Elwyn J. Byars and the late Lillian Perryman Byars.

He was a mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Alice B. Byars of Jemison; son, Darren Byars of Jemison; daughter, Karon Oliver of Jemison; step-son, Jeff Bittle (Amy) of Billingsley; step-daughters, Lori Stover (Greg) of Fairhope, Liz Taylor (Wayne) of Brookside; Mr. B’s, the peanut man; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Perryman (Linda) of Columbiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Byars.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 30 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Martin Chapel with Bro. William Short officiating.

Interment will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.
