John Allen Ashmore, 77, of Verbena died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on Tuesday, March 24, 1936, in Mississippi, son of the late Robert Ashmore and the late Ida Cummings Ashmore.

He was in law enforcement.

Surviving are his wife, Susie Ashmore of Verbena; sons, Kent (Regina) Ashmore of Clanton, and Daryl Ashmore of Clanton; step-son, Gary Elbon of Shelby; step-daughter, Jenni Summers of Indiana; grandchildren, Lauren Ashmore of Jemison and Joshua Ashmore of Jemison; and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Jr., and a twin brother, Albert Ashmore.

Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held Monday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at Martin Chapel with the Rev. Tom Barnes officiating.

Interment will follow in Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
