Johnny Burl Scoggins, 70, of Jemison, passed away on Sept. 24 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1942, in Shelby County, the son of the late Rufus Scott Scoggins and the late Sarah Louisa Brasher Scoggins.

He was an inspector with Alabama Gas Company.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn C. Scoggins of Jemison; son, Michael S. Scoggins (Richie) of Thorsby; four daughters, Renea Benton of Columbiana, Lisa Welch (Keith) of Jemison, Janeice Calhoun (David) of Chelsea; Karen Hayes (Kevin) of Jemison; sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Scoggins of Prattville and Eloise Cleckley; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at Martin Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Hayes officiating.

Interment will follow in Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison.
