Clanton’s City Council on Monday unanimously approved a budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the budget totaled about $10 million, which would make it comparable to the current fiscal year’s budget.
“It’s pretty well balanced,” Driver said. “That doesn’t mean it can stay that way the whole year. We can change it around if we need to.”
In other business, the council:
•Heard from Billy Singleton with the Chilton County Airport Authority about the facility being approved for a $1.6 million grant for runway improvements. “I’m here to say thank you just for the support you’ve shown,” Singleton said to the mayor and council. “We’re at the point where we can stop looking back and start looking forward.”
•Reappointed Donald Popwell to the Chilton-Clanton Public Library Board for a four-year term beginning Oct. 1.
•Declared surplus a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria used by the city’s police department.
•Heard from Driver about the owner of five acres of property near KMA, off Highway 31 in south Clanton, wanting the property to be annexed into the city. Driver said the property owner has several legal obligations to meet before the city could proceed with the annexation.
