Dear editor:

I read with interest the recent letter and article regarding the Verbena gazebo (Verbena’s historic gazebo in need of repairs).

I moved back to my hometown of Verbena about six years ago. I, along with several people, met with the Verbena Historical Society to express our desire to revitalize the Highway 31 entrance and the park. One of the men, an accomplished craftsman, offered to renovate/repair the gazebo and wishing well. We were informed they would not accept our offer. We abandoned our plans with both areas remaining in poor condition.

If only the historical society had worked with us to bring about these positive changes, there would be no need to now request financial assistance.
