Panthers sweep Corner in two close games

Jemison advanced to the second round of the state Class 4A baseball playoffs with two dramatic wins at Corner on April 19.
In Game 2, the Panthers scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 11-10 lead.
Then, in the top of the seventh inning with Corner down to its final out, Jacob Hatch made a diving catch in left field to end the game, 11-10, with a Corner runner on second base.
Corbin Bice drove in the tying and go-ahead runs (B.P. Reeves and Eslinger, respectively) with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. He finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBI.
Eslinger went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Matt Murphy went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Lenoir and Cade Hatch each scored two runs in the game.
Clay Cunningham started on the mound for JHS and pitched 4 1/3 innings. Woodley came on in relief and earned the win, striking out three batters in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Jemison will face the winner of the Bibb County-Oak Grove series.
