Clara I. McElroy Smith, 88, of Montevallo died Monday, July 23, 2012, at Chandler Health and Rehab in Alabaster.

She was born on Sunday, July 6, 1924, in Bibb County, daughter of the late Robert McElroy and the late Annie Leach McElroy.

She was a factory worker.

Surviving are her four sons, Willie Smith of Jemison, Jerry Curtis (Carolyn) Smith of Jemison, Billy Joe (Glenda) Smith of Jemison and Larry (Tammy) Smith of Calera; daughter, Betty Whatley of Montevallo; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Smith; son, Peewee Smith; and parents, Robert and Annie McElroy.

Friends were received from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 25 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services were held Thursday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Earl Short officiating.

Interment followed in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Maplesville.
