Sherry Cox has been appointed to the Chilton County Board of Registrars.
The seat occupied by Judy Bell came open, Cox submitted her resume and on Tuesday was notified she had been chosen by state Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries John McMillan.
“I am very excited, and I hope that I will be an asset to the board,” Cox said.
She joins current registrars Donna Wyatt, the chairwoman, and Pamela Kelley.
Wyatt was appointed by the governor’s office, and Kelley was appointed by the state auditor’s office.
State law calls for the board members to be appointed by those particular offices. Because Bell was appointed by the commissioner of agriculture’s office, McMillan was charged with finding her replacement.
The board of registrars oversees voting in Chilton County. The members register voters and assign them to precincts based on their place of residence.
Registrars also update records to include changes of address, marriages, divorces and deaths. The board publishes a list of voters to be published in a local newspaper.
Cox brings skills to the board related to her experience as a poll worker, school administrator at Jemison Elementary School and supervisor/administrator at the Chilton County Board of Eduction central office.
She started work in her new role Wednesday morning.
