Clanton’s First Baptist Church will host an Alabama-Auburn coloring contest for children ages 4–12 on July 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
There is a $10 entry fee, and the winner of the contest will receive a $25 gift card to Walmart. Kids can either color a picture of Big Al or Aubie. Crayons will be provided, but children are encouraged to bring their own.
During the event, kids will be able to take pictures and get autographs from Auburn majorette Linlee Karn and Alabama football player Taylor Morton.
All proceeds from the contest will benefit the Trent McDaniel Morton scholarship fund, which was set up by Morton’s family after he was killed in a four-wheeler accident on April 1, 2007.
Over the past five years, the scholarship fund has awarded more than $40,000 to seniors all over the state of Alabama.
Those who attend the event Saturday will have the opportunity to purchase “Never, never quit” shirts for $20.
Trent’s brother Taylor explains the quote’s significance on the ministry’s website: “Two weeks after my brother’s death, they found a card in my brother’s pocket that said, ‘Never, never quit’ and had the Bible verses Philippians 3:13-14 on it.” He continued, “No matter what it may be, whether it is God, life, love, school or football, God has inspired me and encouraged me not to quit because there is hope and there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
