Thorsby native Susan Hamm finished as first runner-up in this weekend’s Miss Alabama Pageant.
Hamm, competing as Miss Leeds Area, earned a $3,500 scholarship as first alternate and was second only to Miss Hoover Anna Laura Bryant.
In the four-night pageant, Hamm also won a preliminary swimsuit competition on Thursday and additional scholarships. Her talent was piano, and her platform supported the American Cancer Society.
Hamm has participated in the Miss Alabama Pageant for three consecutive years, competing last year as Miss Birmingham and the year before as Miss Samford.
She graduated from Samford University, where she majored in marketing and management.
In local pageant circles, Hamm was the 2003 Junior Miss Peach and the 2005 Miss Peach Queen.
Hamm is the daughter of Mark and Beverly Hamm of Thorsby and has a younger brother, Zach.
