Another aspect of the bill affects bail bonds.

There will be two separate fees added: one for 10 percent of the bond issued, and another for $35 for each bond.

Fulmer and Stilwell said people using the bail bond service should expect those costs to be passed on to the customer.

As an example, Stilwell said being charged with driving under the influence typically results in a bond of $1,000. A bail bond company would typically charge payment of 10 percent of that, or $100, to get a person out of jail.

After the passing of the new bill, a person might pay $235 to get out of jail under the same charge.

“I don’t know how much more we can tack on,” Stilwell said.

The portion of the bill dealing with bail bonds will take effect on Aug. 1, while all other parts of the bill will take effect on June 21.
