The Clanton Advertiser welcomes two University of Montevallo students as interns this summer.
Junior Heather Buckner and graduate student Drew Granthum will work at the newspaper the next few months.
Buckner is an English major and a graduate of Oak Grove High School.
She was recently chosen to edit Montevallo’s student newspaper, The Alabamian, this coming fall.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to intern here this summer. It’s a beautiful town, and everyone I’ve met so far has been so nice,” Buckner said. “I can’t wait to start getting involved.”
Granthum will intern at The Advertiser for a second time, after working for the newspaper last summer and as a newsroom assistant this spring.
A Montgomery native, Granthum earned his undergraduate degree in mass communication from Montevallo in May 2011.
He is currently working on a master’s degree in English and is a residence hall director at UM.
“I’m really looking forward to working at the Advertiser again,” he said. “Chilton County is a one-of-a-kind place, and I fell in love with the people, places, and events last year.”
Both students will work for The Clanton Advertiser, The North Chilton Advertiser, Peach Living magazine and their respective websites.“We are excited to have Heather with us this summer and Drew back for another year,” said managing editor Justin Averette. “I look forward to seeing and sharing the stories they produce over the coming months.”
