New floors are down in Thorsby’s Helen Jenkins Chapel, as restoration work continues on the historic structure.
Councilman Neil Benson said most of the work would be finished in the next couple of months.
“I know for sure we’ll have it by the Fourth of July,” said Benson.
A third of all retail sales tax generated in May will go toward the chapel’s renovation.
The council also conducted the following business:
•Public Works Director Terry Jackson announced that West Medical Center Drive should reopen soon to traffic, including school buses.
•Mayor Dearl Hilyer announced that a grant to add playground equipment to town parks has been finished and that all pieces have been paid.
•Set a public hearing for May 21 at 7 p.m. to consider granting a beer and wine license to Dollar General and a wine license to Mini Food Mart.
•The drive-through window at Thorsby Town Hall will open to customers June 1.
