The Clanton City Council held a special meeting Wednesday concerning a grant that would be used to purchase weather radios for city residents and businesses.
Though there was no specific deadline to meet, grant administrator Louise Campbell said the special meeting will help move the project along.
“It’s just to expedite the process,” said Campbell.
The council voted Wednesday to amend its portion of the Chilton County hazard mitigation plan to include the radios.
The grant couldn’t be awarded without the radios being in the mitigation plan, Campbell said.
The city has also applied for grant money to build four community storm shelters as well as purchase generators and new sirens.
The grant application now goes to the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and then to FEMA.
Campbell said she was optimistic Clanton would be awarded funds to purchase the radios and shelters.
