The Jemison Public Library will display and promote its first “Fairy Tale Fun” production May 31 to kick off its summer reading program.

The event will involve all ages with costumes, decorations, music, excitement and fun as fairy tale characters are brought to life to help children relate to the printed word through decorated scenes.

Volunteers from the community will be the live characters to meet and greet the children and pose for pictures.

Children can also dress in costumes to show their favorite fairy tale character.

The summer reading program will include a contest to see who can read the most books in June.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, children ages 5 and older will visit the library to meet community helpers such as Jemison’s doctors, dentists, bus drivers, local authors, policemen and firemen.

On Wednesdays, children ages 1-4 will visit the library for Story Hour, songs and snacks.

Activities in June will close with a celebration complete with a clown, balloons, hot dogs and rewards for participating in the events and reading books for fun.

Donations are needed to fund activities and furnish prizes.

To donate money, books, safe children’s toys, snacks or other items for children ages 1-10, call Tammie McGriff at Jemison City Hall at (205) 688-4491 ext. 318 by May 25.
