A 70-year-old Clanton man was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday afternoon in Clanton.
The man was hit not far from Peach Tree Apartments on 4th Avenue, according to Police Chief Brian Stilwell.
The victim was treated on the scene and taken by RPS Ambulance to UAB in serious condition. The man’s condition improved Friday morning to stable, Stilwell said.
The accident remains under investigation. It was raining heavily at the time of the incident, Stilwell said.
Because of the accident’s severity, Officer David Hicks, who has traffic homicide investigation certification, is overseeing the case.
Clanton Police and Clanton Fire and Rescue both responded to the accident.
“Our thoughts and prayers from the police department go out (to the victim and his family),” Stilwell said.
