The 24th Annual Chilton County Area Honors Band will perform at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m.

Seventy-five students were selected from eight schools in Chilton County for the concert, which is sponsored by the Chilton County Area Band Directors Association.

The association includes the following schools: Calera High School, Chilton County High School, Isabella High School, Jemison High School, Maplesville High School, Marbury High School, Thorsby High School and Verbena High School.

According to CCPAC Events Coordinator Christine Brown, students from the schools auditioned in November for chair placement in the honor band.

This year’s conductor is Suzanne Winter, a Jemison resident and retired band director from the Jefferson County school system and Pizitz Middle School.

“She has 33 years of experience and is constantly being asked to conduct honor bands all over the South,” Brown said.

Tickets will be $3 for adults and $2 for students and all children, and they may be purchased at the door.

The concert will be recorded for a DVD that will be available for sale.

DVDs will cost $15 each and all proceeds will go to the Chilton County Area Band Directors Association.

Brown said since the concert is being recorded for the students, parents should be considerate and remove crying children from the auditorium until they have calmed down.

The Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center is located at 1850 Lay Dam Road, next to Jefferson State Community College, in Clanton.
