A 27-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after Clanton Police detectives executed a search warrant at a house in the 700th block of County Road 406.
The department had received reports of an auto burglarly and theft from the 800th block of Eighth Street and during the investigation found the missing property at the house on County Road 406, according to Police Chief Brian Stilwell.
Jesse James Fontenot, 27, was arrested for receiving stolen property and is in the Chilton County Jail without bond. Fontenot was on probation for another violation and is looking at having his probation revoked, Stilwell said.
“The victim in this case had a lot of information for us, and we were able to develop this information into a search warrant to recover the stolen property,” Stilwell said. “Public tips and information is vital to what we do. I have to send a word of praise to the victim’s for their due diligence.”
The department is seeing a large increase in burglaries and theft where scrap metal and copper wire is stolen,” Stilwell said.
“With copper prices and scrap metal prices at all-time highs, anything that can be scrapped is a target for theft,” Stilwell said.
