Isabella had a tough time Friday night against a strong American Christian Academy team. The Mustangs lost 70-32 to the visiting team from Tuscaloosa.
Isabella actually kept things close early and scored first on a run by Tyler Smith with 8:42 to go in the first quarter.
The Patriots answered, though, with two long touchdowns to take the lead, 14-6. The Mustangs fought back behind the play of Smith, who found DeRodgus Campbell for a 30-yard TD pass near the end of the first quarter. A successful point-after would even things up, 14-14, and be as close as the Mustangs would get again.
The visitors would score four more touchdowns before halftime to take a commanding 42-14 lead.
After the break, sacks by Austin Parker and Christian Littleton gave IHS some spark, but the offense didn’t capitalize.
ACA would add four more touchdowns in the second half, while Campbell scored two more for Isabella to put things at 70-26. A run by Smith would cap scoring for the night, 70-32, with 3:05 to go in the game.
Isabella falls to 2-2 on the season and 1-2 in regional play. The Patriots improve to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the region.
