In a world where we seem to learn about a new tragedy each day, a guest speaker Sunday at Victory Baptist Church in Jemison will be uniquely qualified to speak on the subject.
Ed Carter was a member of the 1970 Marshall University football team that met tragedy when the airplane carrying the team home to West Virginia from a game against East Carolina crashed, killing all 75 people aboard.
Carter wasn’t on the plane, having traveled to Texas for his father’s funeral, but read his name listed among the victims.
Carter, who was inspired by the experience to found Death Unto Life Ministries, will speak at the 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. services Sunday at Victory, off Highway 31 at the southern end of Jemison.
“It’s not every day you meet people who read their own obituary in the newspaper,” said Bro. Donald Jones, pastor at Victory. “Because of that, he trusted Christ as his savior.”
