The Chilton County Relay For Life Committee held a meeting Thursday night at San Marcos Mexican Restaurant to discuss plans for Relay For Life 2012.
The event is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m. and will last until 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 28. It will be at Clanton City Park.
Relay is free and open to everyone in the community, regardless of age.
Fundraising opportunities will begin before the official Relay kick-off in January and continue even after Relay in April.
“We’re trying to take a year-round approach to our fundraising,” said Aimee Eiland, Relay chairwoman. “Cancer is not a seasonal disease. Cancer never sleeps.”
Relay 2011 saw a slight decrease in attendance because of the April tornadoes, but committee members said they thought the turnout was still good.
“We are looking for new people to serve on the committee,” Eiland said. “Ages don’t matter.”
Committee member Jerry Grooms said “anybody and everybody” is welcome to volunteer time or money to Relay. No invitation is required.
