Clanton police officers are seeing a rise in vehicle break-ins, according to Capt. David Clackley.
So far this month, officers have investigated nine reports of vehicles being broken into and items stolen. Of these nine cases, four have resulted in the arrest of two people.
In separate cases, Coty Allen Naramore, 20, of Clanton and Michael James Coomes, 19, of Clanton have both been arrested on charges of breaking and entering a vehicle to commit theft. Descriptions and other information provided by victims led to the arrests.
Stolen property was recovered during the investigations that followed both men’s arrests, Clackley said.
“We are working to ensure that this trend does not continue,” said Clackley. “Thanks to the work of our officers, we have seen an increase in the prosecution of offenders. With assistance from the community, we can accomplish our goals of deterring criminals from choosing Clanton as their area of operation.”
