Themed “Everyone Can Be Successful” Verbena’s kindergarten, first and second grade classes held their Black History Month program Friday at the Verbena Annex.

Each grade level presented a brief presentation on different categories including inventions and politics, music and sports.

Ginny Pike and Charlotte Deloach’s kindergarten classes presented sports, now and then, and gave a brief history on Cam Newton and Michael Jordan.

Megan Dale and Mindy Whittle’s first grade classes presented music, past and present on Louis Armstrong and Fantasia Barrino.

Dana Davis and Heather Bryant’s second grade classes presented the invention and politics categories and spoke about numerous historical influences including Benjamin Banneker, George Crum, Lonnie Johnson, Madam C.J. Walker, Dr.

Charles Drew, Garrett Morgan and Elijah McCoy for the inventors group. President Barack Obama, Condoleezza Rice, Shirley Chisholm and Thurgood Marshall were presented in the politics category.

The message of the program was learn about the past, live in peace today and dream of a successful future.

“It is important to remember that no matter where you come from, how you talk or what neighborhood you grow up in you can be successful,” said Davis.
