Chilton County Sheriff’s Deputies, working alongside Secret Service agents, recently confiscated material used to make counterfeit money in the county.
Sheriff Kevin Davis said the raid was part of an effort dating back more than six months. The law enforcement agents obtained a search warrant and raided a home while no one was present, but evidence has been turned over for forensic examination, which could produce suspects in the case, Davis said.
“It’s still just an ongoing investigation,” he said.
No further information was available Tuesday.
Computers, scanners, printers and paper were among the items confiscated.
The Clanton Advertiser reported in August 2010 that the Clanton Police Department was handling 25 cases of counterfeit money, one of which included an arrest and the seizure of about $1,000 in fake money.
Also, Jemison Police arrested two men with counterfeit bills in July 2009. The men had a printer used to make money in their vehicle at the time of their arrest.
