A 31-year-old Clanton man has been arrested and charged in the Nov. 20 robbery of Clearview Grocery Store.
Curtis Lorenza Williams was arrested the same day, Saturday, Nov. 20, and charged with robbery and theft.
According to police, Williams entered Clearview Grocery Store on Kincheon Road and allegedly assaulted a store clerk before making off with money, prepaid phone cards and tobacco products.
The store clerk was treated on the scene by Clanton Fire and Rescue and was transported to Chilton Medical Center for further treatment.
Clanton police officers, with help from the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, immediately began searching the nearby area for the suspect.
“We had several witnesses who called in giving us a direction of travel and a good description,” said Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell.
The sheriff’s department K-9 tracking unit was brought in and began tracking the suspect through a wooded area behind Samaria Church.
Clanton officer Larry Colburn found the suspect hiding in a carport off Lilly Street. Williams was arrested, and several pieces of evidence were recovered at the scene, Stilwell said.
As of Wednesday morning, Williams was in the Chilton County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
“All involved did a good job, and while a CPD officer found him hiding, the CCSO tracking dog tracked from the store to this hiding spot, that will help in our case,” said Stilwell. “We appreciate their assistance.”
