Decisions on library roof to be made soon

The Chilton County Commission hopes to finalize some decisions concerning replacing the leaky roof at Chilton-Clanton Public Library at its next meeting.
County Commissioner Red Turnipseed brought up the library’s roof during Monday’s commission meeting.
County Maintenance Supervisor Jerry Davenport told the commission during their last meeting that the worn out roof could no longer be patched.
The library currently has several leaks, forcing staff to use trash cans to catch rainwater and protect library books and other materials.
There has been discussion recently whether to put another raised roof on the building or try changing it to a flat roof.
“The flat roof on the library will not work,” said Turnipseed.
The commissioners will meet with a consultant at the next morning meeting on Monday, Dec. 13 to discuss the roof options and plan in further detail.
In other business, a unanimous vote granted County Engineer Tony Wearren permission to start accepting bids on replacing the bridge on County Road 486.
The single span wooden overpass was the next bridge in line to be replaced.
