A Chilton Propane truck arrives to transfer propane from a truck that overturned during a wreck Friday morning on Highway 31 near Chilton County High School.

UPDATE: U.S. 31 has reopened to traffic.

A wreck involving a truck carrying propane on Friday morning forced the closure of Highway 31 in front of Chilton County High School—and part of the school.

No propane was believed to have spilled from the truck, and the injuries sustained by the driver of the Chilton Propane vehicle and a Chevrolet S-10 pickup were not life threatening.

Still, because of the threat posed by spilled propane, students and teachers on the southern end of CCHS were asked to move into other parts of the building.

Highway 31 was closed from just after 9 a.m. until just after noon.

The overturned truck lay near the intersection of Highway 31 and Poplar Springs, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether the wreck occurred at that particular intersection.

Chilton Propane sent another truck to the scene with plans to transfer the propane from the overturned truck into the second truck.

The drivers involved in the wreck were both taken to the hospital.
