Non-perishable food items are needed to help with the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center’s 25th Annual Food Drive. The drive is underway now through Nov. 30.
Non-perishable food items may be left at the center on Enterprise Road from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
Center director Terry Collier said canned items are especially needed.
“We really depend on this annual food drive to put us over the top (of food needed for the year),” Collier said.
The emergency assistance center serves anywhere from seven to 20 clients a day.
Last year’s drive brought in 7.5 tons of food and $3,200 in monetary donations, according to food drive chairman Doug Higgins.
With that food and money, 1,552 families were given food. In all, more than 87,813 pounds of food were supplied to 4,291 individuals, including 1,690 children.
“This year, more than ever, the support of the community is crucial to meet the needs of our neighbors who are struggling to feed their families,” Higgins wrote about the food drive. “Your participation in this drive will be appreciated.”
