The sixth annual Chilton County Arthritis Walk will be an event that adults, children and even dogs can support.
The Alabama Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation will have its walk Saturday, Oct. 30, beginning at the Chilton County Medical Center.
Besides the 5K walk, the 3.1-mile route and the 1-mile walk, there will be helpful information and numerous activities going on throughout the day.
There will be snow cones and face painting for children; door prizes; refreshments; a “Show Us Your Moves” dance contest and a new event, a dog costume contest and dog walk.
A health and wellness fair, flu shots offered by Health Spring and Arthritis Foundation information will also be available.
“More than 200 people are expected to be in attendance this year,” said Kristin Whitehurst, President of the Alabama Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
Numerous awards will be given to top groups in the race, such as: best team T-shirt, the largest team, the top individual fund raiser and top team fund raiser.
Walkers who have arthritis will receive the “Blue Hero” hat and will start the walk off as honorees.
The goal for the fundraiser was $21,000 last year and is $23,000 this year.
Among the sponsors for this years’ walk are: Key Property, People Southern Bank, Dr. Jim Driggars, Clanton Lions Club and United Way of Chilton County.
“We appreciate the Chilton County community support and Clanton for the Arthritis Foundation Walk to honor people like Lynn Russell, adult honoree and Makenzie Johnson, junior honoree,” said Whitehurst. “And for raising funds to fight Arthritis.”
A few participating teams are: Chilton Medical Center; BB&T, who had the bank challenge; Comfort Care; Hatley Health Care, Jemison High School Student Council; Clanton Middle School’s Beta Club; The Russell family team; the Makenzie family team; the YMCA and the Chilton County Sheriff Office.
