VHS wins second straight

Led by outstanding efforts from junior quarterback Christian Coston and senior lineman Garrett Dennis on Friday, Verbena (2-5, 2-3) earned its second consecutive win, 32-13 at Talladega County Central.

Coston rushed for 134 yards on 16 carries and completed nine passes in 14 attempts for 66 yards. He accounted for three touchdowns: a pass to senior Dustin Short with less than 1 minute remaining in the first half, a 3-yard run to begin scoring in the second half and a 38-yard run early in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Dennis, meanwhile, made 12 tackles on defense, forced three fumbles and recovered three fumbles.

Short accounted for 176 all-purpose yards and scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter.

Senior Kelly Dorsett began the scoring for the Devils with a 9-yard run with 1:56 on the clock in the first quarter.
