Maplesville on Friday gave up its first points of the season—and even trailed 13-12 at halftime—but the Red Devils (7-0, 5-0) wound up doing what their fans expect: winning.
MHS outscored Pickens County (4-3, 3-2) 28-14 in the second half to take a 39-27 win.
Maplesville senior Hunter McCay scored three touchdowns while rushing for 201 yards, and also scoring for the Devils were senior quarterback Matt Hamner (on a 1-yard sneak), junior Dustin Stephens (30-yard reception from Hamner) and senior Edwin Pettiway (10-yard interception return).
Pettiway had two interceptions total and 11 tackles.
